My son ended his first year of kindergarten only knowing three letters. I immediately hired Mrs. W. and she tutored him three times a week throughout the summer. He started his second year of kindergarten more confident and knowledgeable, and was able to drop his literacy IEP after the first semester. Mrs. W. has a unique ability to hold my son's attention and motivate him to be able to learn for a complete hour per session. If she notices a method isn't working, she moves on to a different method that engages his attention better. Mrs. W. is an exceptional tutor, and I am so thankful for how much she has improved my son's confidence and his ability to succeed academically.

Mechanical Engineer, Math/Science Tutor, And Homeschool Teacher

Are you looking for a highly effective educator to help with organization and comprehension? I've been a homeschool teacher, tutor, and mentor since 2012. I've helped dozens of students graduate high school and be accepted to their universities of choice. In addition, I volunteer as a math teacher to help incarcerated people earn their GED. Originally, I was a mechanical engineer who designed train systems. This was until I found my true calling, teaching. I teach most subjects to students of all ages, pre-K to adult. This includes essay writing, algebra, pre-calculus, SAT math, physics, history, and English. I also specialize in early childhood development skills: reading, writing, math, critical thinking, creativity, and organization. I combine engineering with psychology to help students learn as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Conrad to the rescue! My high school aged son took an online math course this summer to improve his grade and it turned out to be longer than we thought and covering more new material than anticipated. We were running out of time, we couldn't support him and he didn't want to work with a remote tutor. Conrad's patient, approachable, regular-guy math instruction encouraged my son to feel at ease, express what he didn't understand and feel more connected to the material. He finished the class, did really well, and is ready for back to school thanks to Conrad.

Versatile Mathematics Tutor; Experienced Piano & Violin Instructor

Hi! I am a college graduate with a passion for mathematics and music. I began tutoring starting in 2016 by helping younger students as well as high school students with mathematics, ranging from Elementary math to calculus. In addition, I have also played the violin and piano since 2009, and have taught students with those instruments since 2018. What I love about tutoring is that I get to help others with something I'm confident with, and see them improve their grades. Some even love the subject more than before when being tutored. I am very flexible with the schedule as well as with teaching methods. I like to explain thoroughly whatever problem they need clarification with, and I do whatever it takes to make students understand what they're solving. I am happy to tutor at your location or somewhere that you prefer (library, office, etc.). Feel free to contact me by texting or calling, and I look forward to helping your child reach their goal(s)!

Michael has been tutoring my son in math since September. We had to make up for the deficit caused by virtual school most of last year. My son is now thriving in math after the first quarter of consistent tutoring with Michael. He's able to connect with kids which makes a huge difference. He also gives homework which I appreciate.

We contacted Jill to help with college level classes for my son with learning challenges. She quickly responded and had the perfect credentials and supportive teaching style. She dove right in, coordinated with other supports, and provided incredible value to our son. She used creative learning techniques, made herself available on short notice, and quickly bonded with our son. It was a huge relief to him and us! The class included very high level scientific information which she was able to help him understand, organize scientific experiments with him, and assist with organizing and synthesizing information. We look forward to using her again for support with future classes.

FAQs for finding a tutor near you

What is a tutor?
A tutor is someone who can help you or your child better understand an academic subject. You can hire a more general tutor to help your child better understand their schoolwork if they are on the younger side, but there are also specialized tutors such as math tutors and English tutors who focus on just one subject and who can help with high school or college level schoolwork.
How much do tutors charge near me in 2025?
If you're looking to hire a tutor for your kids or yourself, the cost will depend largely on what tutoring subject you choose. As a reference, the national average rate for tutors on Care.com is $22.50 per hour as of October 2025.
How can I find a good tutor near me?
To start your search on Care.com, review profiles for the different tutors in your area and contact those that fit what you are looking for. You will find a description for each tutor sharing details about the subjects they teach, their experience teaching different grades, tutoring kids of different ages, and the services they provide. You can also post a job describing what you need and have the tutors to contact you through the site.
What subjects can the tutors teach?
You will find tutors for almost every grade and subject on Care.com. There are tutors specialized in college subjects, high school, elementary school and even kindergarten. The most popular subjects include math, English, reading, foreign languages, chemistry, and music lessons. We suggest sorting through each tutor's profile to learn about their previous experience with students and the specific subjects that they teach to find the one that fits your individual needs.
How can I prepare for my first session with a tutor?
Before your first session with a new tutor, sit down and do a little preparation so you or your child can get the most out of your tutoring experience. Whether you're studying for a specific test or trying to bump up that math grade, it's important to not only communicate your learning goals and expectations to the tutor, but also to bring up the specific areas you or your child need help with.
